"Nostalgia - Francis Lockwood"

Nostalgia :

Far from the spectacular productions of his brother, Francis Lockwood chooses here the intimacy of the formula in trio, conventions of his vocabulary and his syntax. Admittedly, all the compositions are original, but across a real preoccupation of colouring and an architecture which reveals open culture a as well on the traditional world as on the universe pop music, the spirit of the standards is not very far and one would surprise oneself almost hum with Peace from Horace Siver on Nostalgia or Child is born from Thad Jones on Vieille Ville. Across the permanent references to McCoy Tyner and Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett of the "Standards" is not besides very far (solos of Zeca or Last Knight). But here the improvisation remains always concise, constantly held in the screen of the composition.
"Nostalgia" could be well the disc until admirers of Francis Lockwood waited for a long time, and more still that which will surprise the indifferent ones.
Peter Gritz (relayed on two parts by Aldo Romano) confirms the excellence of his work within the trio of Antoine Hervé. As for Gilles Naturel double bass player, for those which do not supervise closely the French scene, he will constitute the revelation of this album.

"Jimi's Colors - Francis Lockwood"

Jimi's Colors :

Issu from : www.nightbirdmusic.fr    extracts :

Read again Jimi Hendrix can first of all appear as a hopeless undertaking, it is to forget that all the work of the guitarist is impregnated Blues. It is to forget that jazz this work rough comprises a challenge, that to melt, in a subtle synergy, degrees of violence apparently contradictory and ideally complementary, a little like the busy, unperceivable but real waves, which interfere between living organisms with the opposite functions. To work over again isn't Hendrix, for Francis Lockwood, to make it reasonable, polish the asperities, it of it is to emphasize the high degree of accuracy of its compositions, it is to draw with the source of the one of the most powerful musical inspirations appeared at the XXe century, it is to carry out the most unslung dreams freedom, it is to express the music lightest and complex which is, it is incarnate the jazz...

"Monk For Ever - Yochk'o Seffer"

Monk For Ever :

The introverted universe of Thelonius Monk does not support the paraphrase. Yochk' O Seffer and its accomplices bring the proof that the only means of paying homage to the famous pianist is to hustle it somewhat: intros abrupt, smoked codas... Famous silences of Monk are interpreted here like an invitation with the prolongation of its insinuations.
Sometimes talkative (Pannonica), Seffer succeeds in, nevertheless, finding lyricism at the end of long acid emission; Kessler, very percussive, invents others dissonances; Méchali rounds the angles, contrasts about it with Gritz which scratches the matter with full cymbals.
A happytempted and prospective disc.
