FRANCIS LOCKWOOD : NOSTALGIA (KIDS RECORDS. 590061)
Another trio accoustics, that of Francis Lockwood, the old brother of the celebrated Didier. Not convenient to make a career in the shadow of the little genius violonist today internationally recognized. However, it would be domage to pass beside the sensitivity of this pianist. Francis, you know him already, he was a long time member of the "Didier Lockwood Group". You have perhaps even appreciated at the time of one sleepless night in the "Sunset", a famous Parisian club which is its night headquarters. That is there, he tooks the step and delivers to us his solo album. Francis likes the scene and when he enters in studio, he puts heart as much at it. The recording of its own compositions was entrusted to the good care of Christof Dejean, sound engineer highly skilled, freelance journalist with Batteur Magazine at his hours, and which can make sound a battery. In today fall those of Peter Gritz and Aldo Romano who, both, can answer the mixture of energy and of delicacy, marks of factory of generous Francis.-

 | The Lockwood brothers ignite the Palate
"Which happiness, which happiness!" Shared satisfaction Sunday evening for Jean-Louis Vogt, the owner of the coffee of the Palate, and for the public which was pressed in a hurry in its establishment to attend the concert of the trio of Francis Lockwood. Before very happy, Jean-Louis could also be proud of his blow. Because a surprise of size awaited the amateurs of jazz to the second set. Didier Lockwood, return from a tour to the United States, had made the displacement of Rheims with his brother.
Talent in stock The violonist more in vogue of the scene jazz had come in all simplicity to make the party in the city of the sacrings. And what for a party! Boosted environment, subjugated public, the Palate lived one of its great moments. From these moments which transport and remain in the memories. In a dazzling form, carried by a public more than hot, the four musicians really gave the best from them selves. But even without Didier, the placard was enticing. | The trio formed by its pianist of brother with the drummer Peter Gritz and Gilles Naturel with the double bass is indeed one of the best at the national level. And the public from Rheims could have the bright demonstration of the talent of Francis Lockwood. A talent which too often was perhaps eclipsed by that of his brother but who takes all his measurement with this trio. Sometimes compared with right title with that of Petrucciani, the play of Francis Lockwood has this fluidity, this clearness (even in the fastest pieces) which is the mark of the large pianists. Shouldered, pushed by a rhythm section being supplemented with wonder, Francis could leave free course to its swiftness. But it would be unjust nothing to say other musicians. Peter Gritz, already come to the Palate in last December with the quartett from Éric Barret, once again made the proof of his incredible energy. In the line of the drummers such Elvin Jones, he is not satisfied only to accompany but all alone offers a true "number" to him. | Another dimension Gilles Naturel, as for him, curved on its double bass, had gratify the public of solos from a large smoothness. After a first set of a high behaviour, the formation was joined by Didier Lockwood. At once, the concert took another dimension. The violin then filled up the sound room, pretence in its turn to draw the musicians, to push them with going further. Did the ensemble then revisit some standards, inplayed a new youth to them and giving place to "dialogists" between Francis and his brother or more "amazing" between this last and Peter Gritz. To those which, to the issue of this service of exception, indicated to Jean-Louis Vogt that he was going to be difficult for him to better do, the owner of the Palate entrusted malicious that he had another great concert in his bag and was satisfied to give appointment to March 18...
